COVID-19 : 24 March 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant concern for our community. Our thoughts go out to anyone who has their health, job or business affected by the crisis. This is a quick note to outline what business time now looks like for us.

We are taking the situation very seriously and are following the Government measures closely. However at present, we are lucky enough that the COVID-19 related restrictions will not affect our capacity to be open for business as (close to) usual.

We are set up to work remotely and right now half our team is doing that. With the reduced team still on deck in the office, we can easily comply with the 4 square meter per person and 1.5 metre clearance rules. We are still able to meet people in person where necessary, though this is subject to these social distancing and self-isolation rules. We are doing no handshaking and regularly cleaning our hands and the office. We have plenty of hand sanitiser. For most of our meetings, we can do it by phone or video chat.

Property transactions
We can take on new sale matters as normal over the phone or by email. At present, there are no interruptions to NSW Land Registry searches or Council searches. We don’t expect any delays in preparing listing contracts. We will do the necessary conferences / advice by telephone, video call, and email. Paperwork can be signed electronically or on paper and scanned to us. We don’t expect any interruptions or delays with settling transactions. PEXA, the electronic settlement platform and NSW Land Registry have advised they expect to continue to be available as per normal for most settlements.

It’s unclear at this stage whether finance approvals will be delayed. We recommend everyone confirm finance processing times with their banks.

We continue to prepare leases and renewals as normal. Paperwork can be done remotely.

Estate planning
Our estate planning services continue to be available as normal. We can meet clients by telephone or video call and provide documents for signing, without needing the client to visit our office. We can assist clients who are self isolating or are stuck overseas. If you’re sitting at home with nothing to do, it’s the perfect time to revisit your Will and other estate planning documents.

Business / commercial
We are continuing to offer our normal service. In addition, we are offering our clients assistance with understanding COVID-19 related obligations and planning. If you’re contracting arrangements have been affected by the crisis, get in touch for advice.

We understand that different people will have different concerns related to COVID-19. We will be flexible and do our best to meet every client’s individual needs.
